FAQ

  • Absolutely not. When we struggle with emotions or troubling behavior we often do not want to disclose that information to a lot of people. It is possible that the struggles we go through do not easily fit into a medical diagnosis. This is particularly true if we are high functioning individuals who appear to have it all together to the outside world but seem to find something is missing or out of sorts internally or within our relationships. Insurances will often require a referral from a qualifying physician and a diagnosis to start and continue in therapy. I offer private pay services for those who do not want to disclose their struggles to their primary care physician or who prefer not to have their counseling journey reported to their insurance company.

  • It depends. Upon request, I can provide what is often referred to as a “superbill.” Think of it as an itemized list of services that you can submit to your insurance provider if you wish to seek reimbursement. This document would include additional information such as medical billing and diagnosis codes. I highly recommend checking with your insurance company first to see how they handle reimbursement requests as their policies and plans vary.

  • The time it takes to see results varies and is dependent upon multiple factors such as your goals for therapy and any factors that have hindered you from achieving those goals thus far. Some individuals find relief within the first session. Sometimes it helps to just feel heard and understood without worrying about being judged. Other times you might find that there are issues that will take time and patience to work through. It is your journey. I am here to help you gain insight and perspective into the areas of your life you want to address so that you can move forward to achieve your goals. You will be fully involved in your journey and will always have a say in how long you want to be in therapy. If ever you feel stuck or discouraged about your progress we can discuss it in session and work through it together.

  • Absolutely! I offer virtual video sessions through SimplePractice. Video sessions are a convenient way to receive therapy without having to worry about being at an office or unfamiliar location if that is something you are not completely comfortable with. As long as you are able to access a microphone and camera in a location that is safe and free from distractions, you are golden. At the beginning of the session I will always ask you for the address where you are located for safety reasons. Other than that, video sessions run similar to in office session. It’s completely up to you on how you want to receive therapy.

All of your forms, appointment, notes, etc are secured in SimplePractice and any communications via phone or text are conducted through Spruce. Both these platforms are HIPAA-compliant and designed with your security in mind. As a fellow human who values her privacy, I know how important it is to keep this type of information on the hush-hush from prying eyes. I take this responsibility very seriously and am happy to discuss any concerns or questions you may have.

  • A resounding yes! Having an initial consultation before any money is exchanged is super important to me. Therapy will not work if the client and clinician are not a good fit for each other. We both must be on the same page and have a good understanding of what you are looking for and how I may be able to assist before we move forward with accepting you as a client. Time is precious for us all, so we want to make sure we are all on the same page before we can move forward with intake, informed consent, payments, etc. The consultations are usually done over the phone or video and last about 15 minutes.
